OBT2 Program

OBT2, the highest level of OBT School, serves as our junior company of 12-15 dancers, providing a high-level training to facilitate the transition from student to professional dancer with consistent performance experience with our main company.

Participation is one to two years; students’ placement in the program is evaluated every year. Two years in the program is not guaranteed.

OBT2 members participate in daily classes and rehearsals from 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. with class once per week with OBT’s professional company. Their daily schedule consists of technique class and company rehearsals. When not in rehearsals, dancers have an extensive class schedule.

Additional classes include:

  • Pointe
  • Men’s
  • Pas de Deux
  • Variations
  • Contemporary
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Improvisation
  • Choreography
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Dance History
  • Music History

Dancers are provided with a mentor each year to help them throughout their journey in the program. Audition support provided to OBT2 members includes variations coaching, resume building, photography, and videography. Physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture appointments are available to the dancers at no cost. Appointments are subject to availability.

OBT2 dancers understudy and perform professional company roles throughout the season in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® and other large-scale productions. In the spring, OBT2, performs alongside Trainee and OBT School students in the school’s annual performance, at the Newmark Theatre. They also perform in OBT2 specific productions as a part of their Spring Tour which takes place at the end of the season, typically April through June.
