Performance Opportunities

Stage experience aids students in the development of confidence and presence necessary to perform for an audience. *Please note: in order to participate in the 2023 On Stage production, students must be enrolled in the School by December 15.*

COVID Policy Update:

George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker children’s roles are restricted to OBT School students 12 years old and older who are fully vaccinated*. The student must be fully vaccinated by the first rehearsal, scheduled for September 18. If the student is not yet fully vaccinated by the date of the audition, scheduled for September 11, then they must provide results of a negative COVID-19 PCR test take within 48 hours. Details on The Nutcracker auditions will follow soon. Please reference the OBT Student Production Blog for additional information and direct all The Nutcracker audition or performance related questions to coordinator@obt.org.

Company Performances

All students, Level 1 and higher are encouraged to participate in The Nutcracker. Full rehearsal, production, and performance participation is mandatory for Level 6 students, Pre-Professional Division students, Apprentices, and all scholarship students. Casting is based on technical skill, height, and costume constraints. An audition is required. Selected students will be asked to perform with the OBT Company during the performance season.

Student Performance Series

As part of OBT’s Education and Outreach program, OBT Company Artists and OBT School students perform age-appropriate programs for youth groups and school classes during the school day. An audition is not required.

Annual School Performance

Each spring, OBT School students in Level 1 and higher have the opportunity to participate in the Annual School Performance, held in the Newmark Theatre. Participation is strongly encouraged for all students and is mandatory for scholarship students. During our Annual School Performance rehearsal period (January through April), classes may be combined or canceled to accommodate rehearsal. Technique class will never be canceled, although it may be combined with another level. Being cast in a performance is not guaranteed. The program will consist of works chosen to elevate students’ technical development and artistry. As a testament to the quality of their training, the students consistently deliver commanding performances of a professional caliber. An audition is not required.
